The New Year

Wow, it has been a long time since I last posted.  I’ll be surprised if anyone still reads this thing! 🙂

A lot has gone on in my life since I last posted.  Some things I won’t share, but I will share a few things.  First, I finally got a job in September!  That means I have a real school librarian job, with a salary AND benefits.  I hardly know what to do with myself! 🙂  I was off for 2 weeks over Christmas and it was great knowing I would be paid at the end of it.  It’s the joy of working 9 months and stretching out your pay to 12.

So I am usually one of those people who makes a New Years resolution and breaks it about a month in.  Okay, I lie.  About a week in.  Oh, who am I kidding; it’s more like 3 days.

Well, in the name of cliches and solidarity, I am making some more goals for the new year.  I decided to post them here because a) it gives me a little accountability and b) one of them involves the blog!

  1. Become a more disciplined person.  This not only includes the standard “eat better, exercise more” but also speaks to maintaining a cleaner house and a more productive life.  I want to be more disciplined in my time with the Lord.  I can’t JUST desire to be a Proverbs 31 woman, but I actually have to do something about it!
  2. Be more transparent with my friends.  I have a problem with being closed off with some people.  Most people.  Not that I’m going to tell everyone every detail of my life, but I think I need to be more open and honest.  I need to be less shy.  I also need to keep in mind the words of this article from Boundless.  To be transparent and a little blunt, part of the reason I am probably still single (besides God’s timing) is that I tend to be very closed off around guys.  This article really opened my eyes to that.
  3. Stick to a budget.  Now more than ever I need to be mindful of where my money is going and be a good steward.
  4. Blog more!  This blog will likely turn into more cooking than crafting, but I also want to add some posts about what the Lord is teaching me and general life updates.

I am looking forward to the new year and what it will bring.  Anyone else have resolutions or goals for the new year?

Young and Unemployed

My last day of work for the school year was on Tuesday.  I’m sure everyone is on the edge of their seats wondering what I have been doing with all my free time!

Well, Tuesday I went to the library and picked up 6 books to read, plus 2 Jamie Oliver cookbooks.  Because I love Jamie Oliver, despite his taste in children’s names.  I mean, Buddy Bear Maurice?  Anyway, I’m already excited about some of the recipes.

As I’m desperately ever so calmly searching for a full-time position next year, I am trying to brush up on my Young Adult reading.  Because what kind of librarian is worth her salt if she doesn’t know the books that are out there for students to read?  And also, I’m a big fan of Young Adult literature.  Stories are a lot more focused around emotions and figuring things out, rather than hooking up, like many of the books out there for adults do.

So, Tuesday I read

and then Wednesday I read

because there’s nothing I love more than a good zombie apocalypse.

Today I watched an inordinate amount of The Cupcake Girls and attempted to weed my backyard.  I did get quite a few weeds pulled and my allergies are thanking me for it.  Currently my right eye is thanking me by swelling and turning bright red.

Tomorrow I plan on meeting some friends for lunch, see what’s on sale at Hancock fabrics, and who knows what else.  I am nothing if not busy and important.

I had every intention to post tutorials this week, but it’s been kind of nice to have these past couple days off to do nothing of importance.  I’ll be back next week with some real posts!  And maybe this weekend I can come up with a good way to earn some money to support myself this summer.  I’m hoping to get some more things in my shop, and I’ve even been considering selling some baked goods if I can.  That all depends on if I can rent space in a local kitchen … which may be more complicated than I want to get.

A Note and a Thank You …

Sorry for the lack of posts this weekend.  For various reasons, I didn’t get a chance to get the final post up for the Race Day series.  Since Race Day is over, I’ll just say congratulations to Dan Wheldon — winner of this year’s Indy 500!

Have a wonderful day today, whether you are celebrating with your family, getting some great deals, or just relaxing off work.  Tuesday is my last day of work for the school year, and it’s a teacher work day, so I’ll be relaxing all day!  But while you’re celebrating, make sure to spend time remembering the sacrifices made for you by men and women all over this country.

To those who have served their country, I thank you!

New Camera

Today I purchased a new camera! I desperately needed it … I mean, the photos I’ve put up so far have been pretty bad. I’m so pleased with some of the practice pictures I took today. I’ll give you a little glimpse into my life by showing you pictures of my 2 dogs, Joey and Stella. I’ve also included a picture of the flowers on my dining room table — my other camera doesn’t even compare to the detail on this one!

Also, please don’t judge me for my overgrown backyard.  Rain + the fact that it’s fenced off has made me lazy in mowing!
